Been tracking the Habs power play numbers since they called up Hutson and the efficiency jumped to 28.6% over their last 14 games. Meanwhile Tampa's penalty kill dropped to 76.8% since Hedman went down with that lower body injury (confirmed 3-4 week timeline as of Tuesday).

Yet I'm seeing Lightning PK success at -145 across three books for tonight's game. That's basically saying Tampa kills the penalty 59.2% of the time when you convert the odds. But their actual rate without Hedman is 23.2% — a massive 36-point gap.

Am I missing something here or are the books slow to adjust for the Hedman absence? Montreal's been getting 4-5 power play opportunities per game lately with the way they've been forechecking.

The books are definitely lagging on this Hedman adjustment. I've been betting hockey since before the lockout and Tampa's PK system completely revolves around his positioning and outlet passes. Without him, they're basically running Sergachev and McDonagh in situations they're not built for.

What's really telling is Montreal's power play conversion on the road — 31.4% in their last 8 away games. That's elite territory. The Habs are also getting prime power play time because teams are taking more penalties trying to match their speed through the neutral zone.

I'm seeing value on Montreal power play goals over 0.5 at +165 on MyStake. Their special teams coordinator finally figured out how to use Caufield's shot from the circle instead of forcing him to the net front. The efficiency jump isn't a fluke.

You're both overthinking this. Tampa's still got Vasilevskiy between the pipes and their PK forwards haven't changed. Hedman's important but he's not the entire penalty kill.

Montreal's power play "surge" is mostly variance against weak penalty killing teams. Check their schedule — they've faced Arizona twice, San Jose, and Chicago in that 14-game stretch. Not exactly murderer's row for PK units.

Had a similar situation last month when I was tracking Boston's power play after Pastrnak came back from his injury. Books were slow to adjust and I caught three straight overs on Bruins PP goals. Made about

40 over a week just riding the efficiency gap.

The key thing with Tampa is their penalty kill relies heavily on Hedman's ability to clear the zone. Without him, they're icing the puck more and giving Montreal extra chances to set up. I watched their game against Florida on Saturday and they gave up two PP goals in situations where Hedman would normally break up the cycle.

Been tracking this on BetOnline where they post live PK efficiency props during games. The numbers don't lie when you see them shift in real time. Worth monitoring if this trend continues through their next few games.

Ran the numbers on this and the math supports your observation. Tampa's expected goals against per power play attempt jumped from 0.78 to 1.23 in the five games since Hedman went down. That's a 58% increase in high-danger chances allowed.

Montreal's shooting percentage on the power play is also sustainable at 14.2% because they're generating better shot quality. Hutson's point shots are creating more rebounds and Caufield's positioning has improved dramatically. The efficiency isn't just lucky bounces.

Jumping on this tonight. Montreal PP over 0.5 goals and taking the power play time over 6.5 minutes. Tampa's been undisciplined without their top defenseman anchoring the back end.

Before you all start betting the house on Montreal power play props, remember that books adjust faster than you think. This line might be sharp for a reason we're not seeing.

Also worth noting that Tampa's home ice advantage on special teams is still real. Their crowd gets loud during penalty kills and Montreal's road power play efficiency drops to 22.1% in hostile environments. Don't chase numbers without considering the full context.
