Books still have Flames team total goals at O/U 2.5 vs Blues tonight but Huberdeau was a no-show at this morning's practice with what Sutter called "lower body maintenance." He's been their top powerplay setup guy with 18 assists in the last 12 games.

The line opened at 2.5 and hasn't budged despite the injury news hitting TSN around 11:30 AM MT. Blues are allowing 3.1 goals per game over their last 8 but that includes two blowouts where they pulled Binnington early.

Key factors I'm tracking:

  • Huberdeau leads team with 2.1 points per game at home
  • Flames powerplay drops to 19.2% efficiency without him based on earlier season splits
  • Blues penalty kill has been solid at 84.1% on the road

Game time is 9 PM ET and still no official word on his status. Anyone else seeing value on the Under here given the uncertainty?

You're chasing ghosts on that injury angle. Huberdeau "maintenance" in December usually means he's playing through something minor. Sutter loves his mind games - remember when he called Kadri "day-to-day" for three weeks straight?

The real issue is Blues goaltending. Binnington's save percentage has been trash lately at .891 over his last 6 starts. Even without Huberdeau's setup magic, Flames have enough firepower with Lindholm and Mangiapane clicking. I'm actually leaning Over 2.5 at that number.

Ran the numbers on this one and there's definitely value on the Under if Huberdeau sits. His absence historically correlates with a 0.7 goal per game drop in Flames offensive output, mainly because their powerplay conversion rate falls from 26.3% to 18.9% without his vision.

Blues penalty kill stats are misleading too - that 84.1% road number includes games against Edmonton's dysfunctional powerplay and Vancouver's anemic setup. Against teams with legitimate powerplay threats, they're closer to 78% success rate.

The key metric everyone's missing is Flames shots on goal. With Huberdeau out, their shot generation drops from 32.1 per game to 28.4. That's a significant decrease in volume that directly impacts their scoring probability. At MyStake, I'm seeing Under 2.5 at +105 which offers decent value given the injury uncertainty.

Solid analysis on the powerplay impact but you're overlooking Flames depth scoring trends. They've actually been more balanced lately with secondary scoring from guys like Backlund and Coleman picking up slack when top players miss time.

The Blues defensive structure is the bigger concern here. They've allowed 3+ goals in 7 of their last 9 road games, and that's with teams that don't have Calgary's home ice advantage. Saddledome crowds have been electric this season and that energy typically translates to an extra 0.3-0.4 goals per game historically.

I'm staying away from this total personally. Too many variables and the juice isn't worth the uncertainty.

Huberdeau injury or not, I'm hammering Over 2.5 based on matchup alone. Blues road defense has been Swiss cheese - they're giving up quality scoring chances at a rate that would make junior coaches cringe.

Been tracking this stuff for years and when a team like St. Louis is allowing 35+ shots per road game like they have lately, the total usually goes over regardless of who's in the lineup for the home team. At BetOnline, they're offering -115 on Over 2.5 which is basically free money given Blues recent road form.

Everyone's overthinking this injury angle when the real story is Blues goaltending depth. If Binnington gets pulled again like he has in 3 of his last 5 road starts, you're looking at Hofer coming in cold off the bench.

Flames have scored 4+ goals in both games this season where opposing teams made goaltending changes mid-game. That's not coincidence - it's opportunistic offense capitalizing on disrupted rhythm.

Love following these injury situations! Hit a nice little parlay last week when I caught news about a Bruins player being scratched before the books adjusted their lines.

For tonight, I'm just going with my gut and taking Over 2.5. Flames at home have been fun to watch this season and even if Huberdeau sits, they've got enough skill to pot 3 goals against a struggling Blues defense. Sometimes the simple approach works best! 🏒

Hofer coming in cold is exactly the wrong read here. Kid's been solid in his 4 relief appearances this season - .921 save percentage compared to Binnington's .898 in those same road situations. You're banking on Calgary potting 3+ against a goalie who's actually been bailing out St. Louis when their starter implodes.

Real issue is Huberdeau's absence kills their second power play unit effectiveness. They're down to 18.2% efficiency without him running that second group, and Blues have only taken 2.8 penalties per road game anyway. Under 2.5 is the sharper play when you factor in actual special teams impact rather than just shots allowed.
