Checked my usual rotation this morning and the Raptors-Pistons spread went from Toronto -2.5 at close yesterday to Detroit -2 when books opened today. That's a 4.5-point swing overnight on a Tuesday game.

No major injury news that I caught, but Barnes was listed questionable on the 7pm injury report with that ankle thing. Books don't usually move this hard on a questionable tag unless they know something we don't.

Timeline I'm seeing:

  • Monday 11pm: Raptors -2.5 across the board
  • Tuesday 9am: Pistons -1.5 to -2 depending on book
  • Current action: 67% of tickets on Detroit but only 52% of handle

Anyone else tracking this line or have insight on what moved it? Sharp money doesn't usually create this kind of overnight flip without news.

That's not sharp money, that's insider information leaking. Books don't move 4.5 points on a questionable tag unless they got word Barnes is sitting. The ticket/handle split you mentioned confirms it - public still backing Detroit but the big money already moved the number.

I've seen this pattern before with Raptors games. Team medical staff makes decisions Tuesday morning for Wednesday games, but someone always knows Monday night.

Been tracking line movements for eight years and this reminds me of the Kyle Lowry situation back in 2019. Raptors-Nets moved from Toronto -4 to Brooklyn -1.5 overnight, no official injury report until game day. Turned out Lowry was dealing with a back issue that wasn't public yet.

What's interesting here is the reverse line movement pattern. When I see 67% of tickets on one side but the line moves against them, that's usually Tooniebet and the other sharper books following Vegas money. They're not in the business of giving away free points.

I tracked similar action last month when Siakam was questionable against Miami. Line moved 3 points overnight, he ended up sitting, and anyone who caught the early number got burned. The books knew something we didn't until the official announcement came 2 hours before tip.

My advice? If you're on Toronto, hedge it now while you can still get decent value on the flip side. This smells like inside information.

You're all overthinking this. Pistons have won 4 straight at home and Raptors are 2-8 on the road. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one - Detroit's just the better play right now.

The Ontario market's been weird with Raptors lines all season. AGCO-regulated books like Bet365 and FanDuel Ontario move differently than the offshore sites, especially on injury-related news. I've noticed they're usually 2-3 hours behind the Vegas books when player status changes.

What's telling is that MyStake moved their line at 6am EST, which suggests they got the information from their Vegas feeds overnight. The regulated Ontario books didn't catch up until around 9am when the official injury reports started circulating.

If Barnes sits, this line makes perfect sense. Raptors without their best defender against a Pistons team that's been scoring 118 points per game at home? Detroit should be favored by 2-3 points.

Ran the numbers on this movement and it's statistically significant. 4.5-point overnight swings happen in less than 3% of NBA regular season games without major news. When they do occur, the closing line direction is correct 78% of the time.

Key metrics I'm seeing: Raptors are 1-6 ATS as road favorites this season, while Detroit is 8-3 ATS as home underdogs. The reverse line movement combined with those trends suggests the sharp money identified value that the opening number missed.

Barnes' defensive rating impact is worth about 2.8 points per 100 possessions when he's off the court. If he's truly questionable and likely to sit, that alone justifies a 2-point line adjustment.

Still learning about line movements - when you see this kind of swing, should I always bet the side the line moved toward? And how do you guys track all these different books to catch the movements early?
